2 Honorable Mentions!

My first post on this writer's blog!

Hello! My name is Ted Bushman. I have a garden of really weird plants that I keep behind a padlocked fence.

I have a few too many interests to be neatly captured in a blog post - this isn't a point of pride as much as it is a minor inconvenience. Should I share the Ted who writes musicals? Actor Ted? The Ted who made that Fallout: New Vegas mod? The Ted who runs and composes for that volunteer choir? The Ted who plays lots of board games?

Well, this is the Ted who writes science fiction and fantasy, so if that interests you, welcome. And here's what's happened so far in 2020:

I was a part of an online class through the Odyssey Writers' Workshop in January, about 3-Act Structure. It was pretty rigorous for a one-month class, and it totally reshaped my writing process for fiction. I'm so appreciative to Jeanne Cavelos for her leadership in class, as well as to Angie Lanthrop, Jenise Aminoff, Caroline Lee, Wyn Snow, Mark Cecil, and other talented writers who made it so valuable to me.

It was also during this calendar year that I received two honorable mentions for the Writers of the Future Contest. The first was an Honorable Mention (in Q4 2019) for my story "To Forge Infinity", a far-flung future tale about a suicidal smith who forges an infinite sword in hopes of cutting himself out of existence, and then a Silver Honorable Mention (in Q1 2020) for "Seven Relics of the Ancient Family Jones", which is sort of Faulkner-meets-Transhumanism. As of now I'm holding off on trying to publish the stories elsewhere, but hope to be able to share them with you down the line!

I'm working on a new project that I'm very excited about. More on that soon!
